2010 Volkswagen Golf VI R20Now when the Nürburgring is open again we will be bringing you more and more spy shots of fast prototypes that automakers are not talking about yet. This time we have the hot Golf VI R20, that will replace the V6 powered Golf R32.

Don’t be confused by the 2.0 TDI badge on the rear. What gives this test mule away are the center-mounted dual exhaust pipes.

Also the car has performance brake package from the Audi S3. Rumor is that Golf R20 will use the 2.0-liter turbocharged four that develops around 270 horsepower. Power will be sent to all four wheels. The same engine is in the Audi TT-S.

Production version will get a more aggressive front and rear end. 0-60 (0-96 km/h) is expected to take around 5.5 seconds, top speed will be electronically limited t 155 mph (250 km/h).

European debut is expected to take place already in May at the ADAC 24-hour race. U.S. spec model is expected to debut later this fall at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

  • Otto says:

Nice shots but we’re missing the sound of it. We know that VW is about to release a new high performance 2.0 TDI engine to compete against the BMW 23d and the MB 250 CDI. Furthermore, the upcoming VW Concept BlueSport needs a Diesel powertrain, just like the next Porsche Boxter. So, is the disguise the TDI badge or the dual pipes?

  • Robert Adams says:

VW just released the Golf GTD.
As the R20 rumor has been out for a while, plus the car spotted did not sound like an oil burner it is 99% the R20.
