2010 Tata Safari spied

Tata Motors, well known for their worlds cheapest car project Nano is now working on the new Tata Safari.

Tata Safari is the first SUV to be designed, developed and manufactured entirely in India. Tata claims that the Safari delivers almost the same power and torque as the Mitsubishi Pajero, but available at 60% of the Pajero’s price.

First version of the Safari was released in 1998. Last modifications were carried out in 2007. Main changes included: new 140PS, 320Nm torque 2.2l engine, new bumpers and front grill new dashboard, changes to suspension and to door hinges.

Now 2010 model has been spied in Europe. Will Europe(perhaps even North America) see the Tata Safari on sale soon or are they just testing the car in Europe? Hard to tell, but with decreasing SUV sales it is going to be hard for another SUV that has no name and name to enter the market.

So far the main issue with the Safari has been that it is quite a heavy vehicle; it tilts the scales at 2115 kg (4663 lb) (kerb); adding an extra 110 kg (243 lb) for the 4WD variant.

I have a friend in india who owned a safari DiCoR (Diesel Common Rail) and it had a horrible fuel consumption for a diesel and he sold it in a few months. It isnt selling well in india where people look more for practicality than design. selling in U.S and Europe is going to be even harder cuz [besides bad fuel economy] of its design. and that front angle shot shows how narrow and tall it is – ready to roll if pushed hard into a bend. thumbs down from me…

  2. Insider says:

The information posted here is slightly incorrect, last upgrade to Safari was in Oct2007 and came with a new engine 2.2l VTT DICOR.

Its selling hotcakes now and the engine is a Gem.

    to insider:

in 2007 they introduced a new engine. It seems that the car in overall was nto changed:

    quote:
The new engine is mated to a five-speed gearbox, with a new, sporty gear lever. Tata recently displayed a EURO 4 compliant 2.2-litre DiCOR engine with 140 PS (103 kW) and 320 N·m (236 ft·lbf) of torque at the 2006 Bologna Motor Show [2]. It was launched on October 5, 2007.

  4. Insider says:

The following major changes were done in the Oct 2007 launch

    - New 140PS, 320Nm torque 2.2l engine.
    - New Bumpers
    - New front Grill
    - Biege interiors, new dashboard.
    - New Spare wheel cover
    - Increased GC 205mm
    - Changes to suspension (look at the rear dampers)
    - Changes to door hinges

If you call the modifications done in 2005 (primarly the engine) and recognize them as the last changes then what would you call these.

The changes are much more than the changes in 2005.

Sembra avere dimensioni molto più grandi del modello precedente. La linea sembra moderna e gradevole. Spero che abbia buoine finiture e con un prezzo adeguato può avere un buon successo commerciale.
