2010Nominees for the 2010 European Car of the Year have been announced and the jury has picked seven nominees from which the final winner will be selected.

The jury consists of 59 members, representing 23 European countries. National representation on the Jury is related to the size of the country’s car market and its importance in car manufacturing. France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy and Spain each have six members. Other smaller countries have proportionally fewer members.

This year it looks like a fight between the European cars, as there is only one Japanese car and no cars from North America at all.

But this year, the fight is being waged almost exclusively between European cars that we don’t even get on this side of the Atlantic.

The candidates are: Citroen C3 Picasso, Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Opel/Vauxhall Astra, Peugeot 3008, Skoda Yeti, Toyota iQ and Volkswagen Polo.

Winner will be announced end of this month. Stay tuned.
